We started as a small blog site out in the sea we know as the internet and have Finlay realized the first part of our dream launching our first digital music magazine covering the subject of music and music related entertainment.  All of us working together collectively on this project grew up reading publications like Rolling Stone Magazine and have now wondered where did the music go? they have made subjects like politics the main focus other then the reason they were their to begin with, the music.  We hope to fill a void that has been seemingly gone for sometime and bring back music journalism with the focus the music, and the industry itself with all of the exciting innovations and technologies that have been sprung and continue to be from the music industry.

We hope we get your attention and you the music fans give us feed back on what and who you want to see in the future, we also invison growing into a brand that can give you alot of amazing original content with the focus on these projects helping out as many artists as we can. Our mission is to always stay positive and always help artists to have a venue and help to open peoples minds to the amazing music that exists in every genera.  Help spread the word and we look forward to all of you amazing feedback.

Music Business In Positive Change

Today I am writing about Digital Music and where I see significant changes making impacts that truly count.

I have been a big fan of Terry McBride of Netwerk Records for a very long time. He envisioned evolution, and change is taking place. He dared to make a complete 180 shift of his business model—almost overnight. This takes a tremendous amount of confidence in your vision, and I thank you for being an influence to me and the digital music world.

The computer and 3G phone have now become the de-facto standard in the distribution of music and other content across an infinite supply chain. Thus, creating an environment where good content can have the opportunity to be seen for the first time in many generations by a much broader group. In addition to this has been the advent of multiple video portals popping up faster than any other type of website. This has been accompanied by the era of the citizen journalist.

There is an effect that is making its way through music that is reminiscent to what took place in the 60's and 70's with the live show. One of the most notable digital phenomenons that is sweeping through music is an accountability paradigm of one’s live performance by a well informed audience. The Internet has forced bands to play live what they record. If they can’t really play, then they can never expect to sustain a fan base and have a real, long term career in music. There is a rising necessity for artist and fan to interact; fans want accessibility. One of the best attributes of music from past eras is its ability to remain timeless beyond its inception of creation. One of the consistent reasons that allowed this was that the music sounded the same when it was played live. I don't see that many artists filling stadiums like past eras except for the ones who are able to give the fan a true and lasting impression that is taken from a performance. My own personal example is the very first live show that I ever attended. At the age of 13, I had the opportunity to see the Michael Jackson Victory Tour in Miami, Florida. This was a life changing experience that set my standard for live performance. A live performance—in my opinion—should be something that makes a life long impact on you, that gives you a story to tell, because you were one of the lucky ones who got to see the show. For me, this highlighted a musical pathway for me as a child.

I now have to respectfully disagree with one chapter that Chris Anderson wrote in the book The Long Tail. The second chapter of this book is titled “The Rise and Fall of the Hit”. I believe there has always been the same amount of bands out there as what you see on Myspace or Facebook, but I also think there will be less in the future because people think they are rock stars from playing video games instead of real instruments LOL. Sorry kids, if you can’t play a real instrument then you don’t qualify as a band. Music is getting better at a faster

Being Real In Music

First Blog On Play Music City

I want to do an introduction from my perspective on what we are as a web presence and a music site for artists and music lovers alike. We will always do our best to be a source for great music that is out their in the world and in our communities and keep a positive spin with the focus the music itself. Both Ryan and I are the co/editors of this site and our main blog. But I want Ryan to give his perspective in his own words through his blog as well. I have been a lover of music since the age of 5 and have known since the age of 10 what I wanted to do with my life, I can go all the way in my memory banks and remember sneaking to listen to music at night when I was supposed to be going to sleep and I also did not have a TV in my room like so many children do today i had a stereo, a little tape cassette recorder with a handle and a 45 record player as my influences. I never really cared about anything as much as I have about music and was always bored while growing up with all of the other tasks thrust upon us while we are all growing up, because for me I already knew what I wanted to do. I have come to learn how many people in music all felt the same way when they were a kid growing up, and how much every persons story is about how they had a tape cassette player, or some sort of device they would listen to at night when they were supposed to be asleep and they could never turn the music off and its been a pretty amazing journey in its self. I have learned so many lessons the hard way and have finally come to realize its doing your passion as a servant to others through honesty and integrity that gets you what you want out of this life their is know other way. I had to find that out the hard way so many times to get that to stick inside of me, its that you can always have all of the dreams and desires that you have always wanted, you just have to do it good, decent and with transparency in who you are and where you have come from, I just wanted to share that i finally get that and that's what this site is going to represent.

What we are doing

We want to do our best to introduce what we view as great bands and performers from a number of criteria which include honesty in their music and their art. Weather its a song writer, singer song writer or performer we want to always bring you great music from our perspective of all different kinds of music, but we also realize that we all know the definition of great music is very subjective in nature to begin with, so this is our perspective that we want to share and we hope we meet our criteria we are setting forth for all of you. We want to give you a view of artists in a way that is real through simple questions that are then shared with you through the stories of their journeys and show you that in some way how they are all connected to the same thing, which is making great music everyday they are alive, and their passion for what they do should come through to you. We hope that every one really enjoys the music and we always welcome your feedback ,we think its an important part of the process for both learning and for the feed back on the music. We really hope to have you as fans of our site and we will continue to bring you great music and a fun journey and perspective of music for you.
